<p>A method of manufacturing a mould comprises the steps of: generating a representation of the mould from a representation of a product to be moulded, producing a wax model of the mould, coating the model with a shell of refractory material, separating the shell and the model, filling the space formerly occupied by the model with molten metal to form the mould and separating the shell and the mould. The model is made by 3d printing and is coated by dipping in a slurry and/or a fluidized bed or by application of series of coats. The method can be used to make moulds in which glass or metal or resin or plastics can be formed into a product. Figure 3 shows a mould 40 with a pair of opposing faces, each of which has a cavity 21W & 22W. A part is made by bringing two moulds together to form a mould cavity from a cavity in each mould and injecting material into the mould cavity.</p> |
