Compositions comprise a vinyl chloride polymer resin and a stabilizer composition comprising a mixture of magnesium and zinc salts of benzoic acid and/or fatty acids derived from edible fats and oils, and a non-toxic polyhydric alcohol, in the proportion of 25 to 40 parts by weight of zinc salt, 25 to 40 parts by weight of magnesium salt and 20 to 50 parts by weight of polyhydric alcohol. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, maleic of fumaric acids or esters, or styrene, or mixtures of polyvinyl chloride with chlorinated polyethylene or copolymers of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. The fatty acids may be derived from tallow, lard, or sardine, olive, coconut, cottonseed, soyabean, corn or peanut oils. Specified polyhydric alcohols are mannitol, sorbitol, glycerol and pentaerythritol. The compositions may also comprise non-toxic antioxidants and conventional plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, octyl diphenyl phosphate and epoxidized soya bean oil. Examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride and (1) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts and mannitol, (3) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts and glycerol, (4) magnesium and zinc tallow fatty acid salts and mannitol, (5) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts and sorbitol, (6) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts and pentaerythritol, (7) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts, mannitol and 2,6-d-t. -butyl-4-methylphenol, 4,41-methylene bis-(2,6-di-t. -butylphenol) or 4,41-thio-bis-(2-t.-butyl-5-methylphenol), (8) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts, mannitol and 2,6-di-t. -butyl-4-methylphenol, (9) magnesium coconut fatty acid salts, zinc benzoate and mannitol, (10) magnesium and zinc corn oil fatty acid salts and mannitol, (11) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts, mannitol, dioctyl phthalate, epoxidized soya bean oil and 2,6-t. -butyl-4-methylphenol, (12) magnesium benzoate, zinc hydrogenated peanut fatty acid salts and mannitol, (13) magnesium benzoate, zinc hydrogenated cottonseed fatty acid salts and mannitol, (16) magnesium benzoate, zinc olive oil fatty acid salts and mannitol, (17) magnesium benzoate, zinc salts of lard fatty acids and mannitol, and (18) magnesium benzoate, zinc sardine oil fatty acid salts and mannitol; a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer and (2) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts and mannitol; blends of polyvinyl chloride with an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, a butadiene-methacrylic ester graft copolymer or chlorinated polyethylene and (14) magnesium benzoate, zinc salts of tallow fatty acids, mannitol and 2,6-di-t.-butyl-4-methylphenol; and chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and (15) magnesium benzoate, zinc tallow fatty acid salts, mannitol and 2,6-di-t. -butyl-4-methylphenol.
