A pipe cutter comprises a chain carrying a plurality of cutter members and a pair of levers pivotally connected together intermediate their ends, wherein one end of each of said levers is connected to said chain and the other ends are connected by an adjustable screw. Mounted on a pivot-pin 15 are a pair of levers 11 and a pair of levers 10. The levers 11 are permanently connected to one end of the chain 20 which carries the cutters 24, and the levers 10 have hook ends 35 which engage extensions 22a of the appropriate chain pivot. The levers 11 engage on a pin 17 which passes through an eye-bolt 41 which has left-hand threads 42 which engage threads 45 in a ratchet sleeve, having a head provided with ratchet teeth 46. The stem 47 of the ratchet sleeve has a right-hand thread 48. The levers 10 engage on pins 12 formed on a trunnion member 70 having internal threads which engage the righthand thread 48. A ratchet body 52 is mounted on the head of the ratchet sleeve and includes a spring loaded pawl 60. A pin 64 passes through the stem of the pawl and a knob 63 is provided by which the pawl can be lifted and turned to select the operative direct of rotation, or to a position in which the pin 64 does not enter slots 66 and is therefore inoperative. With the pawl in the inoperative position, the levers 10 and 11 can be initially positioned by rotating a hand wheel 76 having a slotted tubular projection 86 which engages a cross-pin 50 in the stem 47 of the ratchet sleeve.</p> |
