A semi-automatic cigarette-making machine 10 of the tobacco-injecting type includes a housing with an aperture (22, fig 1) and a compacting chamber 50 in communication with the aperture for receiving loose tobacco, a compacting member (40, fig 2) mounted for manually operated reciprocal up and down motion from an initial position adjacent the top of the compacting chamber toward the bottom of the compacting chamber, preferably in response to the rotation of a pair of opposed gears 78A, 78B, and an injection spoon 96 mounted for automatic electrically powered reciprocal lateral movement from a rest position within the compacting chamber across the compacting chamber to transport rod-like compacted tobacco shapes past the ejection side of the compacting chamber and into a hollow cigarette tube. Preferably, the machine has a handle 28 for manually compacting the loose tobacco into a rod-like shape, and operation of the handle may actuate a switch 84 to initiate electric power to eject the compacted tobacco from an eject port of the compacting chamber 50. |
