[Also in Division B7] A hoist 9 comprising a tubular angle-bracket 12, Fig. 4, rotatable in a tubular structure 10 having square pegs 16, 17, Fig. 5, to engage in the tubes 3, 6 of a vehicle roof luggage rack (see Division B7), and a screw 18 to pass through a central hole in a gusset plate 7, secured on the rack, so as to be secured to the plate by a nut 20. The horizontal portion 10a of the supporting structure 10 houses a winch drum 11 for a cable 15 passing through the bracket 12, a shaft 21 on the drum passing through the peg 16 for engagement with a crank 24 fixable in the end of the tube 3 by a screw 27 and thrust element 26 and controllable by a pawl 28 and ratchet 29 keyed to the crank 24. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 6 to 9 (not shown), the hoist is formed by a vertical tube and upper horizontal tube and the vertical tube is pivoted to an upstanding support on the roof rack. A threaded screw extends through the horizontal tube which is of square section and engages a slide movable in the tube. Cables fixed in the outer end of the horizontal tube pass round pulleys on opposite sides of the slide, then over pulleys in the outer end of the tube and are connected to a single load carrying hook. The screw is rotatable by a crank. |
