<p>A method of controlling operation of a user terminal 2, such as an ATM machine, wherein the user terminal comprises a controller 4 for controlling operation of the user terminal, and the user terminal further comprises a plurality of devices 10, 12, 14, wherein in normal operation the controller is responsive to data received from at least one of the devices, and the method comprises providing, from a source 140 other than said at least one of the devices, control data to the controller, the control data comprising data that the controller interprets as being received from said at least one the devices. The source is preferably a mobile device and is operable to initiate a transaction and communicate this to server 120 which then processes the transaction request and transmits to further application 38 within the user terminal. The further application controls the transaction and sends simulated keypress data to the application 21 of the user terminal in order to carry out the transaction reverting to the usual user interaction process. Also disclosed is a monitoring means operable to act upon a message sent between the controller and a device and for collecting usage data.</p> |
