The invention relates to a motor system comprising an electronically commutated electric motor 2, a drive circuit 3 for operating the electric motor 2, a control unit 4, for driving the drive circuit 3 and two rotor position detectors 5, placed so as to provide rotor position signals which depend on the relative position of the rotor. The issuing detector signals depend on relative changes in the rotor position. In an embodiment, the rotor position detectors 5 are arranged to be offset with respect to the rotor of the electric motor 2 so that the issuing rectangular signals of the rotor position detectors are similarly displaced in phase relative to another. In addition the placing of the detectors allows the directionality of the rotor motion to be retrieved. The drive is provided by way of a switching pattern, which is associated with the rotor position segment of drive signals. The control unit is operable to determine an instantaneous absolute rotor position on the basis of the rotor position signals and to associate the switching pattern with the absolute rotor position. Optionally, additional position sensors 6 may be included to calibrate the absolute position accuracy of the rotor. |
