PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective agent applicator which reduces driving torque to be required for driving a new protective supply member without requiring complicated operation, thereby reducing cost.SOLUTION: A protective agent applicator 20 includes at least a core bar and a protective agent supply roller (protective agent supply member) 22 having a foam layer formed on the outer periphery of the core bar. The protective agent supply roller 22 is supplied with a protective agent 21, and applies the protective agent 21 onto the surface of a photoreceptor drum (image carrier) 5. For a predetermined time in initial driving of a new protective agent supply roller 22, the protective agent applicator 20 is operated in a protective agent supply mode M, in which the protective agent supply roller 22 is supplied with a protective agent 21 and no protective agent 21 is applied from the protective agent supply roller 22 to the photoreceptor drum 5. |
