<p>In the present invention the following are provided: a water tank (2); a drum (1); a drum drive unit (3); a fabric quantity detection unit; a water quantity detection unit (9); a soiling detection unit (14) for detecting the degree of soiling of the articles being washed; and a control unit (30) that controls a washing step, a rinsing step, and a drainage step. When washing begins, the control unit (30) detects the quantity of articles being washed using the fabric quantity detection unit, supplies washing water in an initial set water quantity that is less than a standard set water quantity set in accordance with the quantity of articles being washed, and then, if the degree of soiling of the articles being washed is small, supplies washing water up to the standard set water quantity and executes a washing step, or, if the degree of soiling of the articles being washed is great, executes the washing step with washing water in a quantity less than the standard set water quantity. As a result of this configuration, even if the degree of soiling of the articles being washed is great, washing can be performed with a small quantity of water without increasing washing time or the quantity of detergent.</p> |
