PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plurality of imaging modes and to trade off image resolution and image acquisition speed in a CCD image sensor.SOLUTION: An imaging array includes a plurality of columns of photosensitive regions (PSR) connected to vertical CCD (VCCD), and includes first and second independently controllable regions. At a first image acquisition mode, charges accumulated in PSR of the first region are transferred to VCCD of the first region, and charges accumulated in PSR of the second region are transferred to VCCD of the second region. The charges are read from horizontal CCD (HCCD) via an output circuit, and images of the first and second regions are acquired. At a second image acquisition mode, the charges accumulated in PSR of the first region are transferred to second VCCD, the charges are accumulated in PSR of the first region and are transferred to first VCCD. The charges are read from the first and second HCCD to improve speed of image acquisition. |
