The device (10) has a compressor (101) propelled with an electric machine (12) and an intercooler (102). The intercooler is arranged along air flow direction of the compressor and cools a cooling medium i.e. liquid cooling medium, in a cooling circuit. The electric machine is cooled by the cooling medium in the cooling circuit at the intercooler. An exhaust air turbine (11) is arranged in the compressor and the electric machine. The intercooler and the compressor are formed in a housing. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell system.
