Faults, such as beads knots and stubs, are detected a running yarn by two parallel plates 10, 11 which are deflectable about axles 13, 14 and which have right-angled V-shaped notches in their ends. The ends of the plates overlap to form a square section opening 12 through which the yarn 2 passes. Means 19 is provided to indicate and/or count or initiate cutting of the yarn when a fault deflects the plates. The plates may be held together against stops 23, 24 by springs 21, 22, gravity, or magnetism the plates can be movable in a plane normal to the direction of yarn travel so as to enlarge or decrease the size of the hole. Initiating means 19 may be actuated by electrical contact 17, 15 which completes a circuit including an amplifier 20. The deflection of the plates may release a catch in a thread-cutting means. The plates may be located between the rollers (2, 4) of a stretch twisting frame.</p> |
