A refractor for use with a light source, especially a fluorescent discharge lamp, for illuminating corridors and similar elongated areas, has a series of prisms 20 extending across the emergent face of the refractor and a second set of refracting prisms 26 for redirecting light in a direction transverse to the length of the refractor. The prisms 26 may lie in the valleys between the prisms 20. The sides 40 of the refractor have a system of horizontal prisms 42 on the inside and a system of vertical prisms 41 on the outside and the top surface has a set of prisms 50. The refractor is suspended by latches and hinge lugs from a housing supporting a fluorescent discharge lamp or enclosing the control gear therefor. |
