Keys 5 for a musical instrument comprise a hinge part 1 forced by the spring 12 against the hinge part 6 such that the part 6 contacts the surface 3 on a line 7 extending in the longitudinal direction of the keyboard and contacts the surface 4 at a point located substantially centrally relative to the width of the key. The contacts between the member 6 and the surfaces 3, 4 are provided by rounded elevations 8, 9 and 10. The part 1, which is formed as a metal fillet common for all keys, is secured to the instrument, and is provided with grooves 14 which accommodate pins 13 on the keys to prevent lateral movement of the keys in the regions of the hinge. Lateral movement of the key remote from the hinge is prevented by a lug 17 and rubber ring 16 which move vertically in a cavity (15) (Fig. 2, not shown), in the key. In a further embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the rounded contact elevations are formed on the fillet, while the hinge-end of the key is formed with two mutually inclined surfaces defining between them a wedge-shaped space. The keys may be moulded from synthetic material or pressed from sheet steel.</p> |
