The present invention relates to a safety terminal with a GPS-based location tracking function. The present invention provides a method of minimizing battery power consumed as the safety terminal conducts GPS positioning through efficient use of the GPS utilizing an accelerometer when a user of the safety terminal enters or departs from a predetermined monitoring area. The present invention provides a method of minimizing battery consumption that is caused by GPS positioning, the method comprising: setting a monitoring area by initiating a location monitoring function; turning on an accelerometer; determining there is a movement when a first set value or more is output from the accelerometer; determining whether the safety terminal is on the move based on the movement; turning off the accelerometer to perform GPS positioning when the safety terminal is determined to be on the move; determining whether the safety terminal enters or departs from a monitoring area that is set based on a result of the GPS positioning; and notifying a protector that the safety terminal enters or departs from the monitoring area. According to the present invention, when the location monitoring function is performed, the accelerometer of the safety terminal is utilized so that only when the safety terminal (the user of the safety terminal) moves, GPS positioning is initiated. Accordingly, even when the safety terminal is not on the move, power consumed as GPS positioning is periodically performed may be reduced, thus enabling a long-term provision of location information offering services.
