The invention relates to a method for producing dimethyl ether by catalytic dehydration of methanol and by distillation of the dehydration product. The method is characterised in that the catalytic dehydration takes place in at least two reaction stages which are connected in series and of which at least the first reaction stage is operated adiabatically, wherein a cooling of the reaction products takes place at least between the first and the second reaction stages. The invention further relates to a device for producing dimethyl ether by catalytic dehydration of methanol, comprising the following elements: A) at least two DME reactors (1a, 1b) which are connected in series and of which at least the first DME reactor is operated adiabatically, B) a cooling device (2) which is disposed between at least the first and the second DME reactor for the reaction mixture from the reactor (1a) position upstream of the cooling device (2), C) a DME column (3) connected to the last reactor (1b) for separating the dimethyl ether out of the reaction mixture, and D) a methanol column (4) connected to the sump of the DME column (3) for separating the reaction mixture, freed from the dimethyl ether, into methanol and water. The method and the apparatus are characterised by particularly high productivity. |
