Abstract A high speed development methodology for an underground mine is 5 disclosed. The methodology involves the steps of drilling blast holes 12 in a development face using a jumbo drill rig 10 with a longer cut to achieve increased lateral advance. Then charging the blast holes 12 in the development face with a suitable explosive charge; and then, removing blasted material after the charge has been detonated. Typically the high 10 speed development methodology further comprises the step of installing ground support after bogging using a different jumbo drill rig from that used for drilling blast holes in the development face. In use, the net effect is to optimise the development mining cycle and increase the speed of development up to double that of a conventional methodology.
