PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform reduction of the width of a picture frame in a light emitting device even when a thin film of one or plural layers constituting a sealing layer is formed by a formation method having a low position precision. SOLUTION: A light emitting device has a substrate 10, plural OLEDs (Organic Light emitting Diode) 50 arranged on the substrate 10, each OLED 50 having an anode 81 and a cathode between which a light emitting layer is sandwiched, an insulating film 18 which is formed on the substrate 10 to insulate the anodes and the cathodes of the plural OLEDs 50, a peripheral wall 20 which is formed on the substrate 10 and located at the outside of the insulating film 18, and a sealing layer which is formed on the substrate 10 and covers the plural OLEDs 50 and the insulating film 18. The sealing layer is formed of thin films of one or plural layers, and the edge of largest thin film having the maximum film thickness out of the thin films constituting the sealing layer (organic buffer film 22 or gas barrier layer 24) is located between the insulating film 18 and the peripheral wall 20.
