A rubber compound comprises a mixture of (1) from 10 to 90 parts by weight of a polybutadiene containing monomeric units of cis-1,4-, trans-1,4- and 1,2-addition, in which the cis-1,4-addition units form at least 30% by weight of the polymer and (2) from 90 to 10 parts by weight of at least one modified isobutylene-isoprene copolymer (defined), the total of the parts by weight of the elastomeric components of the mixture being equal to 100. By the term "modified isobutylene-isoprene copolymer" is meant a reclaimed product of a vulcanized isobutylene-isoprene copolymer with a halogenating agent, such as a chlorinating or brominating agent, including the elementary halogens, chlorine and bromine. From 10 to 55 parts by weight of a butadiene-styrene copolymer containing butadiene and styrene in a ratio by weight of between 49:1 and 13:7 may be included in the rubber compound. The rubber compound is mixed with the usual vulcanizing agents, fillers, plasticizers and antioxidants and is fabricated into motor vehicle tyres. |
