In a hay-tedder of the kind having a tined rotor B rotatable about a horizontal transverse axis so that the tines sweep forwardly over the ground, a hood-like baffle 65, 67 is provided above the rotor to direct the crop downwardly and rearwardly, and adjustable guides 78 are mounted at the rear of the baffle to confine the crop into swaths of a total width less than that worked by the machine. The baffle is in two parts 65, 67 bolted together and, as shown, there are four guides 78 composed of rods 79. The rods of each guide have portions 84 which are parallel and co-planar and further portions 85 which are all inclined to each other so as to produce a funnel-like channel for the discharged crop. Gently diverging plates 85A are mounted above the rotor within the baffle to divide the crop into two swaths. The tedder is mounted on two vertically-adjustable, lockable, caster-wheels 5 and is towed by a tractor (not shown) through a pivoted drawbar 52. The body is rotated by belt-gearing 40, 41, in a casing 45, the gearing being driven from the tractor through a jointed shaft 59 and an angle-drive gearbox 47. For transport, the device is towed endwise, the drawbar 52 and shaft 59 being swung into the dotted position (Fig. 1). The guides (Fig. 12) may be pivotally adjustable about horizontal axes 89 or about vertical or inclined axes (Fig. 24, not shown) and may be swung about these axes into a parked position (dotted in Fig. 12), for transport. The guides may comprise plates, instead of the rods shown. To obviate windage of crop around the pulley 40, co-operating fixed and moving flanges 42 may be provided.
