PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating radioactive waste capable of preventing combustion of volatile organic matters and capable of safely drying adsorbents that have adsorbed radionuclides.SOLUTION: A method for treating radioactive waste comprises: feeding an adsorbent tower 2 filled with adsorbents 3 with radioactive effluent containing volatile organic matters 9 and radionuclides, and allowing the adsorbents 3 to adsorb the volatile organic matters and the radionuclides to remove them; then, connecting an aqueous solution feeding pipe 14 and an aqueous solution returning pipe 16 of an oxidation treatment apparatus 25 to the adsorbent tower 2; driving a pump 15 and feeding the inside of the adsorbent tower 2 with a hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution 22 generated by feeding hydrogen peroxide from an oxidant tank 11 to water in a tank 21, through the aqueous solution feeding pipe 14; returning the hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution 22 from the adsorbent tower 2 to the inside of the tank 21 through the aqueous solution returning pipe 16; performing oxidative decomposition of the volatile organic matters 9 adsorbed on the adsorbents 3 due to an action of hydrogen peroxide; and, after completion of the oxidative decomposition, feeding the adsorbent tower 2 with dry air to dry the adsorbents 3 that have adsorbed the radionuclides. |
