1,082,219. Lubricating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 21, 1964 [Jan. 2, 1964], No. 51819/64. Heading F2A. A bearing comprises a lubricant reservoir formed with angularly spaced, axially and radially extending capillary slots 35, means connecting the slots with the bearing surface, and a channel 46 of non-capillary dimensions connecting the slots together. In Fig. 2, a permeable bearing 30, e.g. of sintered aluminium has slots forming an annular reservoir around bearing bush 31. The slots are initially filled with lubricant by funnel 48 and channel 46. Capillary grooves 56 connected some slots to the bore for lubricant transfer to or from the slots. Washer 54 serves as an oil slinger. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the reservoir is formed from a number of plates, alternate plates (73) being integral with a cover (74) and alternate plates (72) with a Babbitt bearing bush (64). Annular capillary grooves (77, 78) connect the slots to capillary grooves leading to the bearing surface. In Fig. 10 (not shown), the slots are curved. The bearing is applied to an electric motor. |
