PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper conveying device capable of determining whether or not a jam has occurred on the basis of sound generated by a sheet during conveyance at a low cost.SOLUTION: A paper conveying device 100 includes: an ultrasonic signal output unit 114, which is provided in the vicinity of a conveying path of a sheet, detecting an ultrasonic wave passing through the sheet to output an ultrasonic signal; a multi feed determination unit 155 to determine whether or not a multi feed of the sheet has occurred on the basis of a component of a first frequency band in the ultrasonic signal; and a sound jam determination unit 153 to determine whether or not a jam has occurred on the basis of a component of a second frequency band, which is lower than the first frequency band, in the ultrasonic signal. |
