1,145,965. Moulding caps on to tubes; searing non-metallic sheet material. TELEPHON-UND TELEGRAPHEN - FABRIKS A.G. KAPSCH & SOHNE IN WIEN. 10 Jan., 1968 [8 Feb., 1967], No. 1473/68. Headings B5A and B5K. A cap B is welded to a tube M using a reciprocable mould 1 of a material having a high thermal conductivity, the upper region of the mould S being intermittently heated whilst the lower region 2 of the mould is continuously cooled by a cooling channel 3. The heat is applied to the upper region during each welding operation and is removed subsequent thereto so that the cooled region of the mould quickly advances into the upper region to cool and solidify the welded parts. In the embodiment shown in the Figure, a heated plate 7 is lowered into contact with the mould which is forced down over the parts into contact with a stop 8. After welding the plate is removed and after a short interval, the mould is re-raised. In alternative embodiments the upper region of the mould may be heated by electrical or ultrasonic oscillations.
|
