PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method and a sensor module, that can detect a degree of extension of a thin and soft material arranged over a surface of an object.SOLUTION: A sensor module used as arranged near a surface of a sheet-shaped extensible member whose light transmittance varies with its degree of extension: has a photo-reflector 1 that emits light toward the extensible member and detects reflected light 3 from the extensible member; and measures a degree of extension of the extensible member on the basis of an output of the photo-reflector 1. In an extension degree measuring method, the light transmittance of the extensible member is calculated on the basis of an intensity of the reflected light 3 or a transmitted light 5 resulting from the light irradiating the extensible member, and the degree of extension of the extensible member is calculated from the calculated light transmittance, on the basis of a pre-stored relationship between the light transmittance and the degree of extension of the extensible member.
