A handheld device (1) for use in a process of applying a bandage around a limb comprises a rotatable support (34) for supporting a bandage roll (40); a motor (31) for driving the support (34); a drive circuit (50) for driving the motor (31); an interface (60, 61) for receiving input information representing a desired tension of the bandage during a bandage applying process; and a controller (51) for controlling operation of the motor (31) during a bandage applying process through the drive circuit (50), which is connected to the interface (60, 61) for receiving the input information from the interface (60, 61), which is configured to determine a value representing an output torque of the motor (31) on the basis of the input information, and which is connected to the drive circuit (50) for setting the value in the drive circuit (50). The handheld device having a grip (10) for allowing a user of the device to take hold of the device, wherein the device further comprises a plate (2) for supporting both the grip (10) and the support (34).
