A pressure vessel shell 10 is provided with an opening surrounded by a neck 14, a neckreinforcing ring 12 around the neck and bonded to the shell wall 13 adjacent the neck, an annular endplate 16 attached to the neckreinforcing ring and positioned over the opening, an annular ring member 18 positioned in the neck, and deformable sealing ring 21 adapted to be compressed between the ring member and annular end plate and seal against the inner side of the neck. The vessel comprises a thermoplastic or metal shell reinforced with resincoated filament wound layer, 11 such as a wound layer of resin-coated glass fibre, said layer over-lapping a flange 12A of the reinforcing ring. A spigot 19 on either the end plate or ring member locates the sealing ring, which is preferably of neoprene, and pressure within the vessel acts to further compress the sealing ring between the end plate and ring member. A closure or union fitting may be engaged in a filling aperture 23 of the end plate. |
