The present invention relates to a secondary battery. For an example, the secondary battery includes: a can; an electrode assembly placed in the can with an electrolyte; a cap assembly sealing the can; and an insulating member formed between the electrode assembly and the cap assembly. The insulating member includes a thermal contraction material. According to the present invention, when battery abnormalities such as over charge and short circuit occur, the insulating member formed between the electrode assembly and the cap assembly is thermally contracted, thereby sufficiently obtaining a place for moving gas and minimizing an increase in the temperature of a cell. |
