1,167,542. Fuel cell electrode containing Pt and Ru or Rh. LEESONA CORP. 23 Sept., 1966 [30 Sept., 1965], No. 5331/69. Divided out of 1,167,541. Heading H1B. A fuel cell electrode comprises a substrate to which is bonded a catalytic composition consisting essentially of Pt and either Ru or Rh in an atom ratio of Pt: Ru or Rh of 75-98: 25-2, preferably 75-85: 25-15 for Pt: Ru and 92- 98; 8-2 for Pt: Rh. Suitable substrates include sintered matrices of Cu, Ni, Fe or Pt, or porous ceramic or polymeric matrices. The catalyst may be electrodepogited as a metal black from an aqueous solution of a mixture of the metal salts, e.g. the chlorides. A conductive screen or mesh may be pressed into the catalytic layer when the substrate is non-conductive. |
