A hinge arm 17, adapted to be secured to the part which is to be hingedly supported e.g. a bonnet or boot-lid, is pivotally mounted in a stationary bracket or housing 10, and a cam track or rail 19 on the side or edge of the hinge arm remote from the pivot 15 is slidably engaged by one end of a lever 29 which is pivoted at an intermediate point 22 in its length in the bracket or housing and is loaded by a tension spring or springs 26 connected to its other end 25, the spring loading applying to the hinge arm through the lever a turning moment tending to move the hinge arm towards the open position (as shown in Figure 1) in opposition to the moment exerted by the weight of the hinged part. The lever is formed by two opposed arms 24, 29 secured to a spindle 22 rotatably mounted in the bracket, the free end 25 of one arm being notched for the connection of the spring or springs, and the free end of the other arm 29 carries a grooved roller 32 mounted on a spindle 31 adapted to engage and roll on the track or surface of the hinge arm. |
