The joining device (1) has revolving clamping device (9) for gripping to-be-joined workpieces (3) to form lap joint (13). The clamping device has opposing clamping elements (15,17) for engaging on workpieces, such that clamping elements act on to-be-joined workpieces. The first position (31) and second position (32) of reference element are fixedly secured to one of the two clamping elements and to other clamping element.
