PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternative composition and a method for increasing erythrocytes in a patient.SOLUTION: The invention provides use of activin-ActRII antagonist(for example, including activin-binding ActRIIa polypeptide, activin-binding ActRIIb polypeptide, anti-activin antibody, anti-ActRIIa antibody, anti-ActRIIb antibody, activin-, ActRIIb-, or ActRIIa-targeted small molecule and aptamer, and nucleic acid that decreases expression of activin, ActRIIb, or ActRIIa) for increasing erythrocyte and hemoglobin levels in a patient, and for treating a disorder associated with low erythrocyte or hemoglobin levels in a patient in need of treatment. |
