PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress degradation of controllability while preventing interference of an intake valve with a piston, in an engine including a variable valve mechanism (variable valve lifting mechanism, variable valve timing mechanism), and a compression ratio variable mechanism.SOLUTION: A fundamental target compression ratio calculating portion 231 calculates a fundamental target compression ratio according to an engine operating condition. A compression ratio upper limit value calculating portion 232 determines a compression ratio upper limit value corresponding to an actual operation angle and an actual phase of an intake valve. A comparing portion 233 inputs the fundamental target compression ratio output by the fundamental target compression ratio calculating portion 231, and the compression ratio upper limit value output by the compression ratio upper limit value calculating portion 232, selects lower one of both compression ratios, and outputs the selected compression ratio as a final target compression ratio, so that the compression ratio variable mechanism 23 is controlled on the basis of the final target compression ratio. |
