PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip which has a function of forcibly arraying cells into microwells by magnetism and by which fluorescence of cells in the microwells can be observed from a bottom side of the chip.SOLUTION: A microwell array chip has a microwell layer at least on one main surface of a substrate having light transmissivity. A plurality of microwells that the microwell layer has have a shape and dimensions that only one biological cell is housed in one microwell, a bottom surface of the microwell consists of a surface of a barrier member which is harmless to the biological cell and has light transmissivity, the microwell has a magnetic member between the bottom surface made up of the barrier member and the surface of the substrate, and the magnetic member has one or more opening portions when the bottom surface of the microwell is viewed in a plan view. In a method of housing specimen cells in at least some microwells of the microwell array and observing the housed specimen cells, fluorescence emitted from cells housed in the microwells is observed from a substrate bottom side via the opening portions of the magnetic member. |
