PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cell identification apparatus or a cell identification method which are capable of identifying a cell based on a variation of an optical path length that is measured when the cell is irradiated with light, by using a threshold value calculated based on a variation of an optical path length of a normal cell.SOLUTION: A cell identification apparatus identifies a cell by using a variation of an optical path length that is measured when the cell is irradiated with light, and has: measuring means for measuring a variation of the optical path length based on intensity of the light having transmitted through the cell; and analyzing means for identifying the cell by using a threshold value calculated based on a variation of an optical path length of a normal cell.
