PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit in which, within a range without making viewers feel it unnatural for luminance (brightness) of a screen, labor saving is made to be obtained by reducing the number of LEDs being a light source, and a drive power, and also to provide a video display device using the same.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, a backlight unit is directed to an edge light type backlight unit which guides emission light from a light source so as to be irradiated to a liquid crystal display panel from the rear surface side using a light guide plate. Then, control means is provided in which the amount of irradiation light with respect to the center part of a video display screen in the liquid crystal display panel is set to be larger than that with respect to a screen peripheral edge part. |
