According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes an image capturing module, an extraction module, a recognition module, a determination module and an output module. The image capturing module photographs a commodity. The extraction module extracts a feature amount of the commodity contained in the image photographed. The recognition module recognizes the commodity as a commodity candidate in the feature amount the commodity. The determination module determines whether or not there is a commodity sold in a disparate sales form for the standard commodity which is recognized by the recognition module as a candidate. The output module outputs in a selectable manner information concerning the standard commodity recognized by the recognition module as a candidate and the commodity sold in a disparate sales form for the standard commodity if the determination module determines that there is a commodity sold in a disparate sales form. |
