PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which: in cultivation of animal cells, to culture cells previously cultured in a serum-containing medium in a serum-free medium, cells should be settled to serum-free environment by gradually decreasing the concentration of serum components in the medium, during which period proteins could not be produced efficiently.SOLUTION: Adherent animal cells, for example Chinese hamster ovary cells CHO-K1 cells(ATCC CCL-61) are cultured for 24 hours or longer in a serum-containing medium until the cells adhere to a culture substrate, and then the cells which adhere to the culture substrate are directly cultured in a serum-free medium. |
