The storage cell (10) has a sheet-like envelope (24) that partially encloses an electrode assembly (12) comprising a first electrode of a first polarity, and a second electrode of a second polarity. The envelope has a functional layer (243) that is electrically conductively connected to the first electrode of the electrode assembly by an electrically conductor, and an electrically insulating layer.
