The present invention relates to an input apparatus of a portable device using a camera and a method thereof. The present invention includes: a recording camera; a storage unit which stores a key-hand mapping table, where the mapping data of the hand partitions and specific keys are saved; a display unit which displays recorded video from the camera on at least the partial areas while input mode is in operation; and a control unit which operates the camera while the input mode is in operation, controls the display unit to output the video recorded by the camera on at the least partial areas, confirms whether a hand is recognized from the video being recorded in the object recognition, recognizes partitions of the recognized hand, confirms whether changes of the video covering the hand partition areas are detectable, and processes input of the keys mapped to the partitions of the hand where changes were detected in the video.
