PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which an opened/closed state of an eye can be determined with resistance to a change of a person and a change in environment, and also provide a technique by which the opened/closed state of the eye can be determined without difficulty in selecting an edge portion of an eyelid from a plurality of edge portions. SOLUTION: An eye opened/closed determination device 10 for determining an opened/closed state of an eye existing in an image comprises: a gradient extraction processing part 110 for extracting a density gradient direction of each of a plurality of pixels constituting an image; an eyelid candidate area extraction processing part 120 for extracting one or more eyelid candidate areas on the basis of the density gradient direction of each of the plurality of pixels; and an opened/closed determination processing part 130 for determining the opened/closed state of the eye on the basis of one or more eyelid candidate areas.
