The system has control regions (100, 210, 300) for different technical and/or logical components of an automation system provided on a display device (40). A control element (32) i.e. key, is established and formed during selection of control regions. The selection of one control region changes into another control region during operation of another control element (31) within an input field (110) of the former control region. A change of selection between the control regions or between input fields is triggered in a pre-determinable or given order. An independent claim is also included for a control device.
