Refractory heat insulating slabs are made by mixing together a finely divided refractory filler and substances which react to form a polyurethane resin or which polymerize to form a polyurethane or phenolic resin and foaming the mixture, either chemically or mechanically. Preferred fillers are olivine and silica. Optionals are slag wool, alumino silicate fibres, asbestos, paper pulp, wood pulp, silicones and dibutyl tin laurate (if necessary for polymerization). A slab of silicate bonded sand can line one mould wall, and the mixture foamed giving a product with one denser side.</p> |
