The present invention is directed to a drug delivery device with a drive mecha-nism (3) including a piston rod with a bearing (5) for driving a bung (1) in a car-tridge in a distal direction. A movable element (13) is disposed displacably in an axial direction within the drive mechanism (3). The moveable element (13) is movable between a first position in which a distal end of said movable element (13) protrudes from said bearing(5) and a second position in which a distal end of said movable element (13) lies flush with the distal end of said bearing (5). The invention is further directed to a method for detecting the contact between the bearing (5) and the movable bung (1).
