The method involves detecting the noise level in the environment of a motor vehicle (1) and comparing the detected noise level with a risk-indicating sound. An indication perceptible by driver is generated, if the noise level contains a portion which has a sufficient match with the risk-indicating sound. The generation of the indication is formed in the reproduction of the sound. The reproduced sound is the risk-indicating sound or the proportion of the noise level. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a driver assistance system; and (2) a vehicle-navigation system.
