<p>This optical waveguide element is provided with: an optical multiplexer that multiplexes a plurality of input light into one output light; a primary waveguide that guides the input light and output light and is such that at least two types of propagation mode of differing propagation order can be guided; and at least one mode splitter that has a coupling section disposed in parallel to the primary waveguide at a set distance spacing from the primary waveguide in a manner so as to configure a directional coupler, and has a secondary waveguide that can separate at least one type of propagation mode of the at least two types of propagation mode from the primary waveguide. The refractive index ratio (ncore/nclad) of the core and cladding configuring the primary waveguide and the secondary waveguide is in the range of 101-250%.</p> |
