The present invention relates to a content providing method of a client device in a home network system including the client device and a home media server, and the client device. The content providing method of the client device receives content from the home media server and provides a user with the received content. The content providing method of the client device comprises the steps of: receiving, from the home media server, a content list and media information related to each content included in the content list; receiving a request for one content of the contents included in the content list, and requesting the one content to the home media server; and playing the one content transmitted from the home media server by using media information related to the one content. According to the present invention, the client device previously receives and stores the media information, and prepares content playback by using the media information related to the content requested together with the content request, thereby immediately playing the content, transmitted from the home media server, without delay.
