ACTIVATED EARTH FOR TREATING AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS

This activated earth for treating aromatic hydrocarbons is characterized in that the montmorillonite content is 34 mass% or higher, the SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio is in the range of 3.8 to 8.0, and the amount of ammonia desorbed with a heat of absorption in the range of 128 to 148 kJ/mol as measured by ammonia TPD is 0.11 to 0.20 mmol/g. This activated earth is composed of an acid-treated product of smectite-based clay, but is not limited in the origin of the raw material clay, and exhibits long-lasting and unvarying catalytic performance.
