[Class 64 (iii)] In a water-cooled condenser having an annular vapour cooling space defined by inner and outer cylinders 14, 15, and upper and lower tube plates 11, 12 supporting the water tubes 13, the annular space is subdivided by substantially flat baffles 16, 17, 18 and 19 extending radially in width from the inner periphery to the outer periphery of the space and in length alternately from one tube plate to just short of the other tube plate, so that vapours pass through the compartments in successively reversed directions. The baffles preferably extend through the tube plates into the headers, and the gasways between baffles and end plates are of triangular shape, the apex of the triangle being directed towards the inner periphery.
