<p>The present invention relates to a method for obtaining algal biomass, a system for obtaining algal biomass and a cultivation medium for cultivating algae. The method comprises the step of culturing algae in a culturing medium having a pH above 8 such that lipid accumulation and/or carbohydrate accumulation is increased, wherein the medium is a saline medium.
